Recent CDs

On this CD, Nicholas and Sien Vallis-Davies share some of the film music they have written, conducted and performed which has accompanied film and media productions throughout the world (Credits etc. www.openacademy.info).

Many of the tracks spotlight highly unusual flutes and oboes, which Nicholas and Sien were able to pick up on their travels to often remote lands. The Persian instruments in particular, were a gift from a kindly Berber musician, and the Chinese reed instrument was found tucked away at the back of a tiny antique shop in Chinatown, San Francisco.

Nicholas and Sien Vallis-Davies are delighted to give voice to these special instruments which evoke beautiful soundworlds not usually associated with the flute and oboe.

Of MISTS and LEGENDS
Enigmatic and Arthurian landscapes are portrayed conjuring up tender pre-Raphaelite love scenes, majestic rural beauty, and noble full orchestral themes.

Ozymandias
Persian oboe and flute feature alongside their Western counterparts in painting scenes of gentle seduction, exotic souks and desert twilights under crescent moon.

SPIRIT of The East
Music evoking profound and meditative scenes, azure skies, vibrant colour...a landscape infused with sacred essence. The Tibetan flute and resonant bamboo reed pipes are played to sublime effect.

AUSTRALIAN OUTBACK
Sultry bass flute, flute and oboe improvise over didgeridoo and exuberant rhythms, creating an elemental, extraordinary sound world.

Nicholas and Sien Vallis-Davies embrace life affirming philosophies, especially those of a transcendental nature ~ the performances on the CD reflect their desire to free the imagination and see where this leads, embellishing and unfolding the beauty of the music.

The 12 tracks include ethereal movements from both double concertos, Air from Suite no 3, Wachet Auf, Brandenburg Concerto no 1, Sonatas in e, a and b, concerto in F and cantatas 79 and 156, recorded in Salisbury Cathedral and San Giorgio, Venice.

Bach�s divine music, written to aspire to the highest potential of human experience and as a force for good, is explored here in a dynamic and heartfelt
interpretation.

These encores proved so popular with the audience as the finishing flourish to many concerts, recitals, and BBC & CLASSIC FM live broadcasts, Nicholas and Sien Vallis-Davies thought it would be fun to throw caution to the wind and have them recorded live.
